We wanted a name to describe our love for dogs and have used "Hearthrob Haven" for years. We have been actively involved in raising, hunting and showing AKC purebred dogs since the 90's. We reside in SE Michigan.  After having to have knee surgery from running our German Shorthair Pointers, I began looking for the attitude and temperament I loved in Sporting dogs.  Needing a smaller package with those characteristics, I found the Russell Terrier.  I love this breed.  They are fun, energetic, entertaining but still a hunting/working terrier and they like to cuddle too.  What more can you ask for?

The Russell Terrier is a predominantly white working terrier with an instinct to hunt prey underground. The breed was derived from Parson Jack Russell's working terrier strains that were used in the 19th century for fox hunting. Since the Parson’s day, the lines of the Jack Russell terrier and the modern Russell Terrier have diverged.

Russell Terriers were recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 2012 and are now accepted as a distinctly separate breed.

The size of the Russell Terrier combined with a small flexible, spannable chest makes it an ideal size to work efficiently underground.  Their perfect height being divided into the body being 50% and the length of leg being 50% of the overall height.  Along with their rectangular body shape being slightly longer length than height, makes them distinctly different from the modern Parson Russell Terrier and the old Jack Russell Terrier.

We don't breed many litters, so each one offers an exceptional chance to get one of these Russell Terriers.  We encourage all prospective puppy owners to do their research and be prepared with questions to ask the breeder. Make sure you are not only choosing the right breed, but also that you’re getting it from the right individual.

Our puppies are raised in the house and well socialized.  They are up to date (UTD) with age appropriate vaccinations and de-worming's. They are also Dual Registered; AKC and UKC.

If you are looking for love with an attitude, this is the breed for you. Hunt, Track, Agility, Obedience, Conformation- you won't be bored, they can do it all.  Puppies come with a lifetime of support.

Our belief is that crossing good genetics with good genetics will produce better puppies each and every time.  Of course neither of us are scientists or professionally schooled in genetics.  We simply have been blessed with good eyes for a good dog.  We read and study the breed standard and don't rush.  We believe that our pups are proof positive that the above combination is what it takes to get great results.  Above all we believe that not every dog is show quality, and that's all right.  We are just as happy to see a dog become a family member in forever homes where they are loved and cared for and most importantly are allowed to do what they are bred for and return the unconditional love that is in their hearts.

From birth to adulthood, every dog needs affection.  Some dogs bond to certain people right off.  We have found that generally this affection lasts a life time.  It's not genetics, not environment or even connection, our firm belief is that sometimes it's just meant to be.

This unexplained bond may change, although you will find that the early contacts make a lasting impression.  Affection simply brings out the dog's true nature, they desire to be a part of the pack and to be loved.  This loyalty can and will change through out their lifetime as contacts can change.  Dogs live in the moment and are not adverse to moving on as life changes.
